For the adoptee, adoption begins with loss. For the adoptive parent, it begins with gain. Regardless of the age, a child lost their birth parents.
Welcome to the first post of Adoptee Strong! The purpose of this website and blog is to address challenges that are unique to being an adoptee and overcome them! First, let me give a brief introduction of myself and the perspective from which I write. I was born in Hartford, Connecticut. We moved to Texas when I was two years old. My father died when I was almost three. My mother was unable to care for four small children so we went into foster care. I was officially adopted when I was fourteen (my parents were unsure if my birth mother or other relatives might appear). This makes me an older child adoptee. Challenges are common to both the infant adoptees and older child adoptees. However, each have challenges which are unique. The perspective I write from is a Christian one. Christianity is a significant element in my adoptee journey! If you have been touched by adoption, please join me! Hopefully, you will find encouragement as well as helpful information!
